Aspire Science Fair 2026

Aspire Academy Trust proudly hosted its sixth annual Science Fair at St Stephen Churchtown Academy on Monday 6th July, bringing together pupils from across the Trust to celebrate discovery, creativity, and scientific thinking. The event highlighted the enthusiasm and talent of young learners, providing them with an exciting platform to investigate ideas, solve problems, and share their findings with others.

This year’s fair welcomed participation from a growing number of schools. Returning schools included Treverbyn Academy, St Stephen Churchtown Academy, Shortlanesend School and Biscovey Academy, while Mawgan-in-Pydar Primary School and Cubert Primary School joined the event for the first time, making the occasion bigger and more diverse than ever.

Visitors enjoyed an inspiring collection of projects covering a broad range of scientific topics. From fascinating experiments in chemistry and biology to innovative investigations in physics, pupils demonstrated impressive knowledge and creativity through interactive displays, models, and presentations. Their passion for scientific enquiry was evident throughout the day, impressing both judges and guests alike.

A panel of distinguished professionals from STEM-related fields assessed the projects and spoke with participants about their work. This year’s judges were Giles Hill, Aspire’s Digital Strategy and Computing Lead; Claudia Malam, a Geothermal Scientist; Phil Bowles, a Research and Development Manager specialising in geothermal drilling and colour chemistry; and Anabelle Elton-Legrix, Development Manager within the Science and Technology Department at Imerys. Their expertise and encouragement helped make the experience particularly valuable for the children.

Alongside the project presentations, pupils took part in a range of engaging science activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire future learning. A highlight of the day was the ever-popular Rocket Show from Wonderstruck, which captivated audiences with exciting demonstrations. Children also enjoyed a practical workshop where they made the link between minerals mined from the ground, and some of the products we use everyday!

The Science Fair continues to be a key event in the Aspire Academy Trust calendar, demonstrating the importance of providing opportunities for children to explore science beyond the classroom. By encouraging investigation, innovation, and communication, the event helps nurture confidence and a lifelong interest in STEM subjects. The success of this year’s fair once again showcased the remarkable potential of Aspire’s young learners and reinforced the message that curiosity and determination can lead to extraordinary achievements.
